The two orphaned cubs belonging to Grizzly 399's offspring are being moved to a zoo in Colorado. The pair was captured near Pinedale and will remain in captivity rather than being euthanized.
Two male cubs of Grizzly 964, a daughter of the famous Grizzly 399 who was killed near Jackson in 2024, have been relocated to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs. The orphaned cubs were spared from euthanasia after their mother was killed by wildlife officials in Montana this past June for preying on cattle. This news confirms that 399’s lineage continues in captivity, even as her final wild cub is presumed dead and few of her other 18 offspring remain in the wild.
