Two brothers were airlifted from the Thorofare Valley on August 25 after a frightening bear encounter left them lost and out of supplies in the most remote part of the Lower 48. Teton County Search and Rescue picked the men up from a wilderness camp near Hawk’s Rest after they wandered in dehydrated and disoriented but without any physical injuries. The incident highlights the high density of grizzly activity in the backcountry east of Jackson this summer, following several other serious encounters in the surrounding national parks.
