Montana bee expert Michelle Toshack found the westernmost recorded two-spotted bumble bee and leads the Montana Bumble Bee Atlas, training hundreds of volunteers to map and protect the state’s remarkable bee diversity.

Montana is currently tied for the most native bumble bee species in the country, hosting 29 of North America's 50 varieties. Michelle Toshack now leads hundreds of volunteers through the Xerces Society to survey local populations and identify more species at the convergence point of eastern and western habitats. Her recent discovery of a two-spotted bumble bee in Livingston marked the westernmost recording of that specific species to date.
